Located in the heart of downtown Asheville, the Colburn Earth Science Museum has been educating the public about the natural wonders of the world since 1960. We are located on the lower level of the Pack Place Education, Arts and Science Center on historic Pack Square at Biltmore and Patton avenues in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. Exhibits include regional and exotic minerals as well as gemstones, fossils, meteorology and history of mining in WNC. Children love exploring the Museum with scavengers hunts and hands-on activities.
The Museum Gift shop offers:
- Mineral Specimens
- Educational Materials
- 44-million-year-old Geodes from Chihuahua, Mexico (Don’t hesitate to ask a team member to crack one for you!)
To make your visit more enjoyable, please note that:
- The only animals guests may bring into the Colburn are guide-service dogs.
- No locker facilities are available at the Colburn or Pack Place.
- Eating and drinking is not permitted in the Colburn.
- We encourage visitors to refrain from cell phone usage inside the Colburn.
We regret to inform you that neither the Colburn nor Pack Place can validate parking garage tickets.
City of Asheville parking is available at metered spots on the streets and in several garages. Parking also is available at a private garage adjoining Pack Place. For more information on Downtown parking, go to the city’s parking webpage. There are also numerous private parking lots and garages throughout the Downtown area.
